As ye sow, so shall you reap...at least we hope so

A couple of weeks ago we decided it was about time to set our hand at planting here in Georgia. Steve has always had the inclination to gardening -- its because he is a Taurus (sorry, couldn't help myself, its an inside joke) So we have tried a little garden in most of the places we've lived. It was about time to actually admit to ourselves that we live here and that we are staying for an indefinate amount of time so we should 'put down some roots' -- literally and figuratively. So for Family Home Evening we did some planting. There is a tiny little garden of beets, cucumbers, yellow squash and carrots on some of our planter beds in back of the yard and we had each of the kids choose a plant to start from a seed in pots on the back deck, also a couple of tomato starts that we will leave on the porch (assuming it gets enough sun during the day). We want to see of we get a watermelon grown here this year. Our growing season should be long enough. Anyway so here are some picts from our Family Home Evening. Thus far we have beets, squash and cukes coming up in the garden. Yippee!

Early Morning Shout-out

The other morning we were having Second Breakfast, which is the breakfast for the little ones after Alex and Hayden have gone to school, and Tyler and Jacob just started screaming back and forth at each other. While it was killing my eardrums I still thought it was really cute the amount of gusto they were putting into screaming at the top of their lungs. So I had take a picture...sorry you missed the soundtrack. HA HA

Tyler is finally at an age that he is enjoyable -- Okay, that kind of sounds bad but he has been a struggle ever since he was 4 months old and he found his vocal chords. He certainly has been a presence in our family. More lately that has been a good presence. He has become such a sweet boy. He loves to hug his mommy, read books, follows directions (better) and I can actually take him places without a threat of a tantrum. He totally loves Charlie. Have I said that before? You can tell by the pictures. He is just a lover. He has his moments but he is going to be a sweet, sweet three year old.

Snow, snow, welcome snow!

We had our once-yearly snow storm on the 1st Sunday in March. My kids always love playing in it...as long as it lasts. The problem is we don't really have any hats, gloves, or boots anymore so it is usually a short-lived outdoor party. The funny thing is that they cancelled school the next day. There wasn't even any left except some on the grass. The sad thing was we couldn't go sledding on our snow day. Just too cold to go out.

By the next Sunday we were using our air-conditioning in our car on the way home from church. Ahh, Georgia!

The Blue and Gold Banquet

It was our annual Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet at the beginning of March. Go CUBS! I am currently the Wolf Den Leader so I had a lot to do with the planning and execution this year. Our theme was American ABC's. It was fun and we got a lot of compliments on the food (BBQ pork sandwiches (Kansas), potato chips (Idaho), applesauce(Washington), green salad (California) and Klondike bars (Alaska, of course) for desssert)
The decorations turned out pretty cute too. My co-leader, Meg had a great idea to use old maps for the table cloths. She got a box of them from an old trucker for $4. Then each table had a letter assigned to it. There were crayons scattered on the tables for them to see how many places they could find with their assigned letter. It did keep them busy for a while until we were ready to start.
Each boy made a flag for a state too and those were on the tables as centerpieces. And then at the end we did a little parade with the boys and their flags and had them sing America, the Beautiful in the front. I think the whole evening was a great success.


Unfortunately, after I was done setting up in the morning, I went home to give Jake a nap and he woke up with a fever, so Steve, Tyler and Jake had to stay home. That left Alex, Hayden and Aubrey to eat alone while I was serving..don't they look sad. I was sad not to have Steve there.

Alex did receive his Bear this meeting. CONGRATS Alex!!Here he is digging for the bear claw.

This is Alex and his Bear leader, Sister Bahr. She was also his Wolf leader for part of his Wolf year. She is great!
